FieldDay Climate Action Plan
Our Commitment to 1.5°C
At FieldDay, we want to leave things better than we found them. As a small team based in Newtownards, we formally commit to aligning our business operations with the global goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This plan details how we will do our part over the next three years to 2029.
1. Our SMART Climate Targets
• Carbon Baseline (By end of 2026): We will establish our first official Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions baseline using historical utility, heating oil, and fuel data.
• Zero Landfill Waste (Continuous): We will maintain a 100% diversion-from-landfill rate via meticulous at-source segregation of packaging, glass, and ceramics.
• The Circular Wax Loop (Continuous): We will repurpose 100% of our production-grade wax residue into secondary items (like wax melts) to eliminate ingredient waste.
• Certified Packaging (By 2027): We target at least 75% of our paper and cardboard spend to be FSC or PEFC certified.
• Supplier Risk Vetting (By 2027): We will vet 100% of our top 5 key suppliers to confirm they hold formal environmental or anti-deforestation policies.
2. Resource Allocation (How We Fund & Run It)
• People: Sarah Hawk serves as Plan Owner to handle tracking and data. Alix Mulholland provides final governing approval and ensures our strategy prioritises the planet.
• Tools: We use an internal Energy Logbook (for utilities) and our Supplier Tracker and Packaging Technical File (for pEPR data) to automate our climate reporting without expensive software.
• Materials: We actively invest in sustainable mono-materials (like clear glass jars) and buy 100% compostable or recycled outbound shipping alternatives to eliminate plastic void-fill.
3. Stakeholder & Supply Chain Engagement
• Suppliers: We focus on our top 5 key suppliers across our 4 main categories (wax, oils, packaging, vessels). We verify that 100% of fragrance oils are IFRA compliant and request raw material provenance to keep our supply chain free from deforestation.
• Couriers: We engage our carriers (DHL, DPD) to request annual carbon intensity reports and explicitly instruct them to prioritise lower-impact sea and road freight over air freight.
• Community: We use our platform to protect local biodiversity and peatlands in Northern Ireland by actively promoting Ulster Wildlife's "Let Nature In" campaign.
4. Daily Employee Roles
Every team member is an Environmental Steward with a vital daily role:
1. The Switch-Off Habit: Turn off all candle-making equipment, heating, and non-essential lighting when not in use to lower our production energy intensity.
2. Meticulous Sorting: Correctly separate cardboard, film plastic, glass, and ceramics so zero recyclable material slips into general waste.
3. Low-Impact Travel: Participate in our annual team travel chat to help us identify and remove barriers to lift-sharing or cycling to work.
5. Governance & Review Cycle
This plan is fully approved by FieldDay's highest governing body – our Directors. It is published openly on our website for transparency. Progress is reviewed by senior management every month, and this Climate Action Plan will be formally updated every 36 months.
We’d love to hear from you. Our hands are usually busy making or packing candles, so we’ll be in touch as soon as we can!
